Hiking the Camino de Santiago - Ahhh!
In October, CEO & Founder Bob Campbell set out on one of the most highly sought pilgrimages completed by nearly 350,000 trekkers from around the world each year—the Camino de Santiago.
El Camino de Santiago, or The Way of Saint James, invites countless pilgrims to arrive in Santiago de Compostela, a city in northwest Spain, 22 miles east of the Atlantic Ocean.
The voyage—commonlyknown as El Camino, The Way, or the Camino—concludes at the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral where Saint James, one of the 12 apostles, is buried.
Dating back to 800 AD, the Camino offers seven traditional routes across Spain that range from 71 to 621 miles, though pilgrims can start anywhere in Europe.
"For my 5th Camino, I did the Camino del Norte. The overall route is approximately 35 days, and we walked about 250 miles or 15 miles per day, finishing up in Llanes," Bob shared. "Bilbao and San Sebastian were two of our favorite cities and we loved the food. The foodie experience is excellent!" Bob also added that the dollar goes so far that costs are cut in half.
Bob also cited his visit to the Guggenheim, the stunning views along the trails, and how impressive the Camino infrastructure is for all the trails. They're well marked with scallop shells and yellow arrows, the symbols of the Camino de Santiago.
"Next October, we'll start in Llanes and walk for 17 days to Santiago," Bob added.
Top (5) Holiday Travel Photo Hacks
Who doesn’t love travel tips that make you go, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Here are five photo hacks to simplify your holiday travel routine.
Snap Your Parking Spot: Take a quick picture of your car and the parking lot section when leaving it at the airport. You'll thank yourself when you're back!
Document Your Rental Car: Photograph your rental car, inside and out, before driving off. A quick video walk-around helps protect against false damage claims.
Luggage Snapshot: Take a photo of your luggage for easy identification in case it gets misplaced during your journey.
Credit Cards & Passport Backup: Photograph your credit cards (front & back) and passport. This makes replacing them faster if they’re lost or stolen.
Wine Memories: Discover a great wine during your holiday? Snap the label to remember it for later.
Now you know.
The Long and Short of TSA Wait Times
There are two types of travelers--
those who get to the airport early (recommended 2-3 hours prior to flight time) and those who stroll in as the plane is boarding. For those hoping to breeze through security, beware of some of the longest TSA wait times. Read more
An Even Faster Way Through Airport Security: Touchless ID
Airport security screening of the future is here (which is good news given the last article!). Touchless ID means passengers can speed through bag drop-off, TSA screening and - at many airports - the plane boarding lines. All without showing a boarding pass or even an ID in some cases.
Airlines are predicting the five busiest days to fly this season:
Friday, December 20
Sunday, December 22
Thursday, December 26
Friday, December 27
Sunday, December 29
Arrive early and plan ahead for potential delays.
As for the top destinations, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are leading the pack. Tokyo is the fourth-most-booked destination, with the biggest year-over-year increase in bookings, according to Chase.
This shift aligns with a broader trend from United Airlines, showing that more travelers are opting for international trips this holiday season.
